about

Aspirations For Young Xol is Santiago Salazar’s second album. AFYX was made from personal experiences ranging from the growth of his son into adulthood, to memories of growing up in Bassett California, a struggling Latino suburb outside of Los Angeles.

The album begins with “Saturated Fear,” a deep house number that pounds you with tom drums and Synth stabs for the first half of the track, building up to a plateau of deep feel good pads.

“Aspirations For Young Xol” is a uplifting track filled with chords, pads and a Rhodes wiggle worm. This is a feel good track and is dedicated to his son.

Next up is  “Xol’s Pain,” which sounds like a theme song for a new Netflix original.  Heavy piano strings and an arpeggiated bass line is the main focus of this track.

“Bloodline” is a deep techno banger with shuffling hi hats and a distorted main synth line, sounding like his production from Historia y Violencia label.

“Dark Matter” is a experimental piece Santiago produced when he borrowed Esteban Adame's Juno-106.

“Orange Blossom” is the street in Bassett that Santiago grew up on. It was known for its large residence of gang bangers. Santiago use to have to creep through the streets avoiding such gang members. This would be his theme song if he had to do it all over again.

“Prolonged Effect” is a retro sounding techno track with Santiago's signature production.  Perfect for them early AM sets.

“Pachuco Dub” is a techno track that has a haunting sound through it with a delayed synth stab flowing over banging tom drums.

“Ode To Stinson” is dedicated to one of Santiago's favorite producers, James Stinson of Drexciya.

Last up is “Sara Rivera”, a tribute to a child hood friend who was fatally gunned down next to Santiago’s home. This is a happy sounding track that reminds Santiago of Sara’s personality.
